The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak changed the way millions of people work. Bin Wang, Yukun Liu, Jing Qian, Sharon K Parker explored the challenges of remote workers in the paper “Achieving effective remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic: a work design perspective”. While the research was done during the pandemic, the results are here to stay since remote work became the new norm.
Researchers identified 4 main challenges of remote work: work-home interference, ineffective communication, procrastination, and loneliness. These challenges affect workers’ performance and well-being.
One of the main findings of the research is that social support help to overcome all four challenges.
This finding is crucial as it allows managers to rethink how to organise remote work effectively and create high-quality virtual communication as the quality of communication is an extremely important factor in successful interactions.
This is where VR collaboration platforms have an advantage in comparison with the usual virtual ways of communication. Due to the high level of non-verbal communication and true presence, it is easier to connect with your employees because it feels like you are in one physical space.
With VR collaboration platforms like Glue, you can mitigate the impact of the challenges of remote work and increase the productivity of your employees.
